Farm of Dreams puts the puzzle in service of something. Matching threes clears the board and pays out coins; the coins go into upgrading the farm, which is what actually advances between levels.

That structure suits players who bounce off pure level counters. Progress is a place getting better rather than a number getting bigger, and a session that ends with a new building feels finished in a way that “level 47 cleared” does not.

It also puts a small decision on top of the matching: coins spent on one upgrade are coins not spent on another, so the farm you end up with is somewhat yours. Nothing here is deep, but it is more than the board alone.

3. Spend the coins on farm upgrades between levels.

Bank a level or two of coins before buying. Upgrades unlock as the farm grows, so waiting a little means choosing from a wider set rather than taking whatever was affordable first.
