Space Chasers

Space Chasers hangs a chase on a matching board. You command a task force, pirates have taken your sector, and each successful match sends your ships into an engagement — so the board is not scoring points, it is firing.

Chain length is firepower. Longer chains release considerably more of it, which makes the usual match-3 trade-off unusually concrete: a quick three plinks at a pirate, a long chain removes one. When a ship is nearly down, the ordinary match finishes it; when a fresh one arrives, it is worth spending a couple of turns building something bigger.

The framing keeps a familiar mechanic interesting for longer than the theme alone would, because the fiction and the scoring actually agree with each other.

How to Play

  1. Swap two neighbouring symbols to match three or more of a type.
  2. Every match sends your task force at the pirate ships.
  3. Build longer chains when a new ship arrives — they release much heavier firepower.
  4. Do not let the pirates escape the sector.

Tips & Tricks

Match the size of your chain to the target. Spending a nine-chain on a nearly destroyed ship wastes the firepower you needed for the next one, and the board rarely hands you two big chains in a row.
