Tile Match Fun is aimed squarely at younger players, and its rule is one line long: match the shape. Each stage sets a goal, you complete it, and the next stage opens. A score is attached to every level, which gives older players a reason to keep at a stage they have already beaten.

What makes it work as a children’s game is what it leaves out. There is no timer breathing down your neck, no currency to manage, no reward loop asking you to come back tomorrow. A child can be shown it once and left alone with it, which is not true of most games shelved under the same label.

For an adult it is a two-minute affair, and that is fine — it is doing exactly what it set out to do, and the classic shape-matching format has been outlasting fashion for a long time.

1. Look at the shapes on the board and find the ones that match.
2. Tap or click them to pair them off.
3. Complete the goal of the stage to move to the next level.
4. Replay a stage to push your score up if you want more from it.

Work along a single row before moving on, rather than picking off whichever shape catches your eye. That habit stops a young player losing track of what is already matched, which is the usual reason a stage takes three times longer than it should.
