Jewel Monsters

Jewel Monsters puts a fight on top of the board. Monsters hide among the trees on the forest path, and the way past one is to match three or more gems of its colour: every match lands as an attack, and enough of them clears the monster out of your way.

The twist is that the exchange runs both ways. Take too long and the monster attacks you, so a slow, careful board-read has a cost that most puzzle games do not charge. That flips the usual calculation — here a decent match made quickly often beats a perfect one found late.

You are not defenceless. Matching four or more gems puts a heart bonus inside one of the gems on the board; collect it and you get some health back. Knowing when to break off an attack to go and pick up a heart is most of the skill in the game, and it is what turns a straightforward matching board into something with real decisions in it.

1. Read the monster's colour — matching gems of that colour is what damages it.
2. Swap two neighbouring gems to line up three or more and land the attack.
3. Match four or more gems to make a heart bonus appear inside a gem, and collect it to heal.
4. Keep the pace up: a monster left alive long enough will attack you back.

Go for the heart the moment it appears, not once your health is low. Hearts sit inside a gem on the board, and that gem can be cleared out from under you by your own next match — healing you would have had, gone in a move you chose.
