Pirates! The Match 3

A pirate voyage strung together from match-3 boards: unknown lands, chests to open, enemies to fight, and a task waiting on every level. What lifts it above the theme is the gem economy underneath.

Matching combines gems into mightier ones — and those can be combined again into something stronger still. That is a genuine ladder rather than a single power-up tier, so the interesting question on a board is not what clears now but what your next two clears are building towards. Spending a mighty gem the moment it appears is the beginner’s mistake.

Level tasks vary enough to keep the voyage from settling into routine: digging, fighting and clearing all read differently even though the board is the same one.

1. Read the task the level sets before opening.
2. Swap two neighbouring gems to match three or more.
3. Combine matched gems into mightier ones, then combine those again.
4. Save the strongest gems for the part of the board that actually needs them.

Build one tier higher than feels necessary. A mighty gem spent on an ordinary cluster clears a little; the same gem combined once more and then fired clears the section that was going to cost you the level.
