Emocan replaces the swap with a slide. Characters move up, down and across the board, which means a piece is not locked into a trade with its neighbour — you are pushing it somewhere, and the whole line responds.

That freedom sounds generous and is actually the difficulty. On a swap board the set of legal moves is small and easy to scan; here it is much larger, and the useful skill is narrowing it down rather than searching it. Experienced players pick a target group first and then work out which slide feeds it, instead of looking at the board and hoping something jumps out.

The character art is bold and simple, which keeps a busy board readable, and the sliding motion makes it feel quicker than a comparable swap game even at the same pace.

1. Pick the group you want to complete before choosing a move.
2. Slide a character up, down, left or right to bring it into line.
3. Match three or more identical characters to destroy them.
4. Watch how the rest of the line shifts before your next slide.

Decide the destination, then find the slide. Scanning a sliding board for “what can I do” offers too many options to be useful; starting from “what do I want” cuts the choice down to two or three moves worth considering.
